The Pacific Asia Lift and Escalator Association (PALEA) has participated in providing input and feedback to the CEN TC10 ad-hoc 17 responsible for developing the latest version of EN81. The structure of the new version of changed by combining the existing EN81 parts 1 & 2 and producing two new parts, one for requirements for electric and hydraulic lifts (Part 20) and the other will have all testing requirements electric and hydraulic lifts (Part 50). The new standard also includes many improvements some reflect the direct requirements of non- EU countries that use EN81 as the basis for their national PALEA has involved LESA (NSW and Vic) in its deliberations with the TC10 committee.
Ian Todkill, president of the PALEA has presented to us changes that will be made to the European (EN81) and Australian (AS1735) standards in the very near future. These changes have been developed in consultation with lift industry participants in most parts of the world, including Australia, and will become part of our everyday life.
