LESA members attended to a briefing at NBN’s offices to learn more about the issues the lift industry needs to address with the introduction of optical fibre based emergency phone services throughout the country.
We received information of the of plans NBN and the Department of Communications have for the migration of emergency lift phones to the digital NBN, noting that without proper process, many lift phones may be left unworkable under certain operating conditions.
Urgent action is needed by stakeholders to enable successful migration of services to the NBN or
an alternative operating platform prior to their disconnection. This is particularly crucial in the context of lift phone services. The resulting service disruption from failure to successfully migrate these services could give rise to serious risks in terms of public safety, personal injury and property damage.
